Art Project: The Eurovision Song Contest
Like a number of events, annual music competition, The Eurovision Song Contest, has been affected by the ongoing pandemic and has been cancelled. Eurovision 2020 would have been the 65th edition of the competition and was due to take place in the Netherlands. Instead a pan-European live show called Eurovision: Europe Shine a Light was broadcast instead.
The Eurovision Song Contest can be seen in a number of ways – a fun, kitsch dose of light entertainment, a sincere attempt for nations to feel united, a way for music lovers to connect, or a politicised event that reveals historical and contemporary allegiances and aggrievances…
With Eurovision as their starting point, artists were invited to consider a number of ideas around the event or that can be linked to it.
Here’s a selection of artwork and prepatory studies made by some of the Art Project course artists taking part in the project.
