Art Project: Virtual Research Trip – National Museum, Sweden

This week’s brief centred around a virtual research trip to Stockholm, Sweden and the vast collection found in their National Museum.

The collection contains around 700,000 pieces of art dating from the 16th Century onwards and is formed of collections from the Swedish Royal Family, prints and drawings acquired by 19th Century Swedish ambassador Carl Gustaf Tessin alongside other collections and acquisitions. The museum also houses around 45,000 ceramic 19th and 20th Century pieces manufactured at the Gustavsberg Porcelain Factory.

The National Museum features work by Rembrandt, Rubens, Goya, Watteau, Gauguin, Degas, Manet, and Renoir as well as a vast collection of work by nationally and internationally renowned Swedish artists including Carl Larsson, Anders Zorn, Carl Fredrik Hill and Ernst Josephson.

Here’s a selection of artwork and prepatory studies made by some of the Art Project course artists taking part in the project.
