Art Project course gallery No. 12
Art Project: It’s A Wrap / Inspired by: Christo
This week’s brief took its inspiration from a key theme and technique of leading contemporary artist Christo (Christo Vladimirov Javacheff) who passed away recently (May 31) aged 84. Together with his partner Jeanne-Claude, the pair were best known for their land art and in particular their wrapped work, using expansive amounts of fabric to enclose public buildings, monuments or natural forms. Later this year, the Arc de Triomphe will be wrapped in fabric and rope according to Christo’s plans made before he died.
Artists could also explore ideas around wrapping / unwrapping – objects that are wrapped (can we see what it is or is it totally hidden / obscure?) – or items that can be wrapped and unwrapped, who or what could / should be wrapped up, or acts / occasions that feature wrapping or unwrapping. Artists were also invited to work with media associated with wrapping, or explore ideas around wrapping / unwrapping your own work
Here’s a selection of artwork and prepatory studies made by some of the Art Project course artists taking part in the project.
Look out for another gallery of work coming soon…
