Discover the work of acclaimed American artist Noah Davis (1983-2015) in his debut UK retrospective at the Barbican Gallery followed by lunch at a local restaurant…

Noah Davis‘ figurative paintings were inspired by his experiences as a Black artist in Los Angeles and shaped by the artist’s sense of “responsibility to represent the people around me.” From familiar, domestic scenes to fantastical dreamlife scenarios, Davis portrays daily routines and a sense of community as well as a more uncanny side to life, delving into his imagination to explore more mysterious themes.

Aimming to make art more approachable, Davis and his wife Karen co-founded the Museum Underground in Los Angeles’ Arlington Heights neighbourhood to encourage the local community to experience and make art first hand – “to change the way people view art, the way they buy art, the way they make art.” The show features paintings, drawings, sculptures as well as curatorial material from spanning Davis’ short but highly creative career.

We will visit the exhibition for approximately two and a half hours, giving you ample time to enjoy the show and perhaps sketch in the space. You may also have time to visit the free exhibition, Into Eternal Land by Citra Sasmita (more info)

After our visit, there is the option to join us for lunch at Cote (approx. 5 minute walk away) to discuss the exhibition with your fellow artists.
