A 10 week, step-by-step painting course that covers everything you need to start painting like a pro.

Working with acrylics, we will look at how to start your painting practice – what you’ll need, how paint works and how to create paintings using different techniques including alla prima and indirect painting.

We will also consider how artists have used paint throughout the centuries as we look at a number of paintings for ideas and inspiration.  Handouts also provide you with additional information. Your course also includes a trip to two of London’s major art collections.

Venue: The Fine Art Room – Northfields

Your course takes place at Northfields Community Centre.
Northfields Community Centre is located at 71A Northcroft Rd, London, W13 9SS.

The centre is approximately 5 minutes walk from Northfields Tube station (Piccadilly Line). Local bus routes: E2 or E3.  There are a few parking spaces available at the centre but these cannot be reserved / guaranteed.  Parking restrictions are in place close to the Centre but free parking is available in streets a short distance away. See map

Course level: beginners or anyone who wants to refresh their painting skills.

Course materials:  some basic materials provided. You will need to bring your own acrylics and brushes – kits will be available to buy on the first day or we can provide you with a materials list.

Your course tutor: Mario Lautier Vella has been teaching beginners how to paint since starting his teaching career in 2011.

A qualified art tutor and professional artist, painting is a key part of his practice. Working with oils, acrylics and mixed media, his 2017 solo exhibition Like Home featured a number of new paintings. His work can be found in collections across the UK, Australia, Canada and Malta. Find out more
