Assignment: Albert Watson

Our starting point this week were nudes photographed by acclaimed contemporary photographer Albert Watson.

The 78 year old photographer was born in Edinburgh but moved to Los Angeles in his late 20s, when his photography hobby unexpectedly led to his first assignments shooting magazine adverts. Watson was quickly commissioned to shoot editorial photos (his first portrait was of Alfred Hitchcock for Harper’s Bazaar). To date he has photographed over 100 covers for Vogue, as well as album covers, film posters and fine artwork, with his photography exhibitions taking place in museums across the globe. His work is slick and dramatic, with his celebrity subjects often found beautifully lit in monochromatic, stylish shots.

Here’s a selection of artwork and prepatory studies made by some artists taking part in the session.

Look out for another gallery of work coming soon…
