Be inspired by an early time in Picasso’s long career that marked the departure from his sombre Blue Period into what’s known as his Rose Period. Discover how and why Picasso shifted his practice to produce work that’s warmer, brighter and centred on some colourful characters…
Between 1904 and 1906, Pablo Picasso’s direction and approach changed radically – his art was driven by a ‘rose’ palette, with pink and complimentary blues featuring prominantly in his work. The result is art that feels joyeous and more upbeat than his previous Blue Period output, yet which retains an air of unease carried over from his previous work.
Picasso’s paintings from this time feature friends he made whilst working in Montmartre and a change in his representation of the human figure – discoveries that would go on to shape his more abstract work…
Picasso – Acrobat and Young Harlequin (1905)
In the morning, we will begin with a short presentation on Picasso and the Rose Period that will also include contemporary artists working with similar themes. We will then enjoy a life drawing session where we will work with our life models (both clothed, semi-clothed and nude) in both short and long poses. In the afternoon, we will respond to our drawings by developing them further or taking them into painting.
Please note, due to venue restrictions, paintings can only be made using acrylic or watercolour.
