Ahead of a major retrospective opening in November at Tate Modern, enjoy a full day in the studio exploring the life and work of artist Dora Maar.

Looking at her work as an artist and photographer, we will focus on photomontage – the Surrealist collage technique of creating surprising, startling imagery by combining photographic images from different sources to create new pictures and new meaning.

Inspired by Dora Maar

We will consider Maar’s photographic photomontages plus other photographic techniques to discover how we can create our own images and how these can be taken into drawing, painting or mixed media work, plus look at the work of other contemporary collage artists working with both figurative subjects and abstraction.
